Meet the Foster Orthodontics Team

When you come to our office, chances are Jan is the first person you will meet. She has been an essential member of the team for 35 years. With her beautiful smile, kind heart, and patients-first mindset, Jan has been integral to the great experience of thousands of patients and families at our practice. When not helping Dr. Foster run the practice, Jan loves being a wife, mom and grandma, traveling, and exercising. Jan and Dr. Foster both adore Viszla dogs, so if you have one let us know if we can meet him/her!

Kurstin is our insurance and financing specialist. She has more than a decade of experience helping patients get the beautiful smiles they desire. Questions about insurance and payment plans are easily answered by Kurstin, and she can design payment plans that make orthodontics more attainable than you might think. Kurstin has a contagious laugh that brings joy to so many of us every day. At home she has two amazing, feisty kids who keep her on her toes!

Sabrina is the ultimate utility player at our practice! At any given moment you may find her helping Dr. Foster chair-side, up front with Jan and Kurstin in administration, or helping out in the lab. If something needs to be done, chances are Sabrina is helping to make it happen. Sabrina has valuable experience working in both orthodontic and pediatric dental settings. Dr. Foster and Sabrina worked together earlier in their careers, and we were thrilled when Sabrina joined the team at Foster Orthodontics in 2024. Outside the office Sabrina is married with two adorable children, she is well-traveled, and a talented baker.

Julie is an experienced chair-side assistant who primarily works alongside Dr. Foster in all aspects of patient care. Julie is gentle, detail-oriented, forthright, and efficient. In addition to her chair-side duties, Julie assists Dr. Foster with radiograph tracing for cephalometric analysis. Any questions about your facial growth and jaw relationships? Cephalometric analysis can answer those questions! Julie has three boys and a granddaughter who keep her busy. She and her husband rarely miss a home Hawkeye football game.

Most of the time you can find Shannon working chair-side with Dr. Foster. Shannon is kind, efficient, and personable. Her smile is contagious! Shannon is also our expert in all things inventory. Whether you like gold braces, silver braces, clear braces, or clear aligners, you can thank Shannon for making sure we always have the best technology available to make your smile amazing! Shannon and her husband love traveling, being outdoors, and raising some of the most beautiful horses you can find anywhere in Iowa.

Christi is an experienced chair-side assistant who works alongside Dr. Foster while also helping to manage our technical and regulatory compliance tasks. Digital Orthodontics (specifically our state of the art intra-oral scanner) requires weekly vigilance to make sure that things are running smoothly. This technology is key to keeping our treatment plans thorough and our treatment timing efficient; while Christi is integral to maintaining these capabilities. Outside the office Christi is married with two successful adult sons and grandkids she absolutely adores.

Nicki is our lab technician and also works chair-side with Dr. Foster. Nicki’s lab work exemplifies precision and attention to detail. Dr. Foster says that Nicki is the fastest and highest quality lab technician that he has worked with in private practice or during his seven years as an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa. We are extremely fortunate that she joined our practice in 2021. Nicki is married with two talented kids heavily involved in sports and other activities.
