Transform your smile with braces, a time-tested orthodontic treatment that we personalize for every age and every need.
Whether you’re considering braces for yourself or your child, Dr. Foster and his team are here to guide you through every step of the journey. Modern braces are more comfortable, discreet and effective than ever before, and with proper care, the results last a lifetime.
What are Orthodontic Braces?
Braces are orthodontic appliances that gradually shift teeth into their correct positions by applying gentle, continuous pressure over time. They treat a wide range of concerns like crowding, overbites, underbites and crossbites, improving both the function of your bite and your smile.
We offer different types of braces to meet the needs of each patient, including:
- Traditional metal braces: The most common option. Today’s metal braces are smaller, lighter and more comfortable than ever.
- Clear, ceramic braces: Tooth-colored brackets that blend naturally with your smile. These are ideal for patients who want a less noticeable option while still benefiting from traditional braces mechanics.
- Self-litigating braces: A modern design that uses a built-in clip instead of elastic ties, which can reduce friction and require fewer adjustments.
Teeth Crowding, Overbite, Underbite and Crossbite Treatment
Braces are a great treatment option for patients with teeth crowding, overbites, underbites and crossbites. When you or your child come to Foster Orthodontics for braces, you can expect to follow this treatment plan:
- Consultation & Exam: Begin the treatment process with a comprehensive orthodontic exam. We’ll take x-rays, assess your bite and discuss your goals. You’ll leave this appointment with a clear picture of your options and recommended next steps.
If you are not a current patient, schedule your free consultation today.
- Treatment Planning: Every smile is different, so we customize treatment plans for everyone. Using your records, we’ll map out the expected movement of your teeth, estimated treatment length and type of braces best suited for your needs. We’ll answer your questions and make sure you’re comfortable with your treatment plan before we start.
- Braces placement: Once we’ve aligned on your treatment plan, we’ll begin. During your placement appointment, we will bond your braces brackets and thread your arch wire. This process is painless although you may feel some initial pressure over the first few days as your teeth begin to adjust.
Typical appointment duration: 1-2 hours
- Regular adjustments: Throughout your treatment you will need to come in for periodic check-ups and adjustments. During these visits we will adjust your wire, monitor your progress and address any concerns. These appointments are critical for keeping your treatment on track and give us the opportunity to make refinements along the way. For the best results, please follow these braces care tips.
Frequency: Every 6-10 weeks
- Braces removal: When your teeth have reached their ideal positions, we’ll remove your braces. The removal process is quick and comfortable and you’ll leave with a beautiful smile.
- Retainer fitting: After braces removal, retainers are essential for keeping your results permanent. We will fit you for a custom retainer the same day your braces come off and explain how and when to wear it.
- Retainer check-up & post-braces appointments: Once your fitted retainer is ready, you’ll come in for a quick appointment. We will make sure the retainer fits and isn’t pinching anywhere, while also checking the initial stabilization of your teeth post-braces. If any adjustments to your retainer are needed, we will make them. If there are any, we will discuss any concerns about the shifting of your teeth. Long-term appointment frequency will drop to as needed for retainer adjustments or to address any concerns.
